Vanity Lane is an original fairy tale and story ballet created by La'Toya Princess Jackson.
The lyrics for the original theme song “Vanity Lane” were written by La’Toya Princess Jackson and
produced by Westley Steele in the fall of 2011 in a collaborative effort for the writing and production duo The Luminary Society. In February of 2013, Princess conceived the idea to turn the song into a full length ballet adaption. She enlisted the help of a local composer Emmanuel Maestro to present the ballet in Atlanta, Georgia. With the hope of expanding the ballet further and creating compelling music for the ballet she began to seek out classical musicians to help bring the ballet to the national stage.
Upon moving to Boston to study Dramatic Arts at Harvard University, she commissioned two Boston composers: Gordon H. Williams to compose Act I of the ballet and Jared Hettrick to compose Act II of the ballet. Keeping the original “Vanity Lane” theme song, Princess opted to include a grand finale performance of the original song which has now evolved into an extended Epilogue. An unconventional diversion from the traditional ballet model, the Epilogue stays true to the original origins of the song “Vanity Lane” and gives the ballet contemporary roots in the world of theatrical and concert dance. She hopes to bring the full length ballet to the stage and eventually tour the production regionally and nationally. The ballet’s focus is on the personal emotional and spiritual journey of ElectrKPrincess. The conflict of negative influences regarding body image, self-love and self acceptance is the major focus of the ballet.
